There are many types of vinegar out there. The usual white, clear vinegar you find on the market is usually made from malt (barley). Ordinary apple vinegar is made by fermenting apple juice. Apple cider vinegar, on the other hand, is made using fresh apple. Yeast is added to crushed fresh apple to ferment sugar to alcohol. Bacteria are later added to ferment alcohol to acetic acid.

The history of apple cider vinegar usage can be found in folklore and traditional medicine, but only recently the scientists are conducting high-quality clinical research to support the health claims of apple cider vinegar.

Today, apple cider vinegar is known as a digestive aid, weight management, and appetite suppressant. Acetic acid, a major component of apple cider vinegar, has been identified as a key to these benefits. A 2009 clinical study in “Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry” concluded that during the 12-week treatment period, Japanese subjects who consumed acetic acid had their body weight, BMI, visceral fat, waist circumference, and triglyceride level significantly reduced compared to placebo.

Apple cider vinegar also has a long history of usage as a digestive aid. Stomach acid production decreases with age, which correlates to increasing incidence of digestive discomfort and bloating.  Sufficient stomach acidity is vital for optimal digestion, as protein digesting enzymes are activated only under acidic pH. Taking apple cider vinegar could help improve digestion as it stimulates stomach acid production and digestion.

Herbal Slim is pleased to introduce a new Apple Cider Vinegar + Green Tea product. Apple cider vinegar has been fortified with green tea extract, one of only few natural supplements that Health Canada allows to be marketed with a weight loss claim. Standardized amount of EGCG in green tea, a catechin with powerful antioxidant capacity, ensures that your body remains in thermogenic (fat burning) state in addition to reduced calorie intake state from taking apple cider vinegar.

Green tea further fortifies antioxidant capacity of apple cider vinegar. Supplementing antioxidant with weight loss plan is important because when you lose weight, you are exposed to higher level of toxins released from fat tissues. Antioxidant protects your body from being damaged by oxidative stress and free radicals from this exposure.
